New Parsons Plant Increases HorizonPSI Production
As supply chain issues continue to impact our industry, HorizonPSI continues to look for ways to increase our production capabilities and reduce our lead times. With the recent purchase of a fabrication facility in Parsons, Kansas, we’ve doubled our production footprint while adding key equipment and processes to our manufacturing capabilities to keep quality under our control. This new facility should increase production capabilities by as much at 50%, helping us better keep up with customer demand.
New Water Jet Capabilities Increase Efficiencies
The purchase of our new facility included a water jet, which can cut any material or thicknesses without creating dust. We will be able to cut hardened steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass and even titanium. This new equipment is also capable of cutting soft materials like rubber or foam quickly and accurately, which will allow us to produce a variety of parts in-house that we currently outsource – such as gaskets. These machines are easy to program for custom parts or short runs, and work well for mass production. Ultimately, we gain production control of many more parts and help shorten our supply chain.
Powder Coating Adds to Finishing Options
Powder Coating is another process we have added to our in-house capabilities. Since we produce systems and equipment for a number of different industries, we often customize the equipment finish to meet the customer’s product or process. More and more companies specify powder coatings for a high-quality, durable finish. Used as both protective and decorative finish, powder coatings are available in an almost limitless range of colors and textures, and technological advancements have resulted in excellent performance properties. Powder coated products are more resistant to diminished coating quality because of impact, moisture, chemicals, ultraviolet light, and other extreme weather conditions. In turn, this reduces the risk of scratches, chipping, abrasions, corrosion, fading, and other wear issues that may occur in production. As a bonus, powder coating is a dry application that eliminates employee and environmental exposure to hazardous chemicals and the flammability risk found in traditional painting methods.
Increased Space for Production
One of the greatest benefits of the Parsons, Kansas facility is the increased footprint. The 50,000-square-foot production space is twice that of our Lawrence facility and will allow us to stage projects even more efficiently. With its 7-½ ton bridge crane, the layout of the production floor is set up to handle larger items as well. The crane’s hoist capacity will make it easier to work on structures and supports, which we have previously outsourced.
